It is interesting to begin a journey alone to a place so far from home. As this trip began, I found myself suddenly surrounded by sounds and images that are unfamiliar and words that are not understood. Usually, I check-in online, which makes travel easy and arrival at the airport gate less hectic. This time, online check-in was daunting even after clicking the translation button. Walking into the international terminal at LAX was a quick introduction to travel to places that I knew nothing about and where the language is truly foreign! Luckily, my brother and sister-in-law live at my destination, but it is still disorienting to feel the strangeness of another language.
This whole experience is honestly a great way to start my travels which are focused on bringing education to nurses who are unfamiliar with wound care. Becoming immersed into surroundings that are unfamiliar and difficult to understand create anxiety. This is a good lesson to learn as I plan an introduction to wound care for a group of nurses who not only speak a different language, but also are unfamiliar with wound care.
